SoCal Election Results: Garcetti and Gonzalez Win

Yesterday was Election Day in areas across California; once again demonstrating their commitment to building a better environmental future, voters elected candidates dedicated to renewable energy, clean air, and clean water.  

In Los Angeles, CLCV and our local league the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters endorsed both Councilmember Eric Garcetti and City Controller Wendy Greuel to become the next mayor. LA is the largest city in the state and the second largest city in the country, so the mayor has significant sway over both California and the country’s environmental future. Lucky for us, both candidates in the run-off had long-standing pro-environmental records. In the end, Councilmember Garcetti won a decisive victory to become LA’s next executive. We know that Mayor-elect Garcetti will work for the continued improvement of Los Angeles’ public health, transportation, infrastructure, sustainable economic progress and expansion of public parks as he did as President of the LA City Council.

Meanwhile, in San Diego, former CLCV boardmember and long-time League of Conservation Voters San Diego boardmember Lorena Gonzalez was elected to the Assembly to fill the vacancy left by now-Senator Ben Hueso. Gonzalez previously served on the State Lands Commission under Former Lt. Cruz Bustamante and was an alternate on the California Coastal Commission. She comes to office with outstanding environmental credentials and experience working on critical environmental policy plans focused on mitigating pollution in San Diego.

Congratulations to these candidates! Pro-environmental voters can expect great things from both of them.
